Check your tire pressure monthly. Millions of gallons of gasoline are wasted each day from under-inflated tires. Properly inflated tires can save you up to 10% on fuel costs.

Have You Thanked Your Environment Today?
November
The calm before the storm
A chance to catch your breath
A time for reflection
A time to give thanks.
Okay, we're done. NOT! We aren't going to let you off that easy. There's work to be done! We've got a big Copenhagen meeting coming up that is going to chart our earth's future and we need to shout out to the leaders that they need to do it right. On Oct. 24th www.350.org had a wildly successful world wide shout out event with over 5,000 groups from more countries (181 to be exact) than we ever knew existed. So stay involved and contact your local, state and DC leaders and ask them to vote for our environment.
Back to November - It is a time for thanks for many and all things. It is a time to thank Veterans for their service in protecting the values we hold so dear. It is time to thank Native Americans from whom we have learned much about respecting the earth. It is time to be grateful for all of life's wonders for which we owe so much: the bee that makes honey, the barnacle that miraculously sticks, the birds that fly thousands of miles, and for the brilliant fuchsia-colored flower of the Christmas cactus.
So please, look around you, be in awe and give thanks to your environment today.
"When we show our respect for other living things, they respond with respect for us." - Arapaho

Planetary Boundaries
It's Not Just about CO2 - Ten Planetary Boundaries We Need to Consider - Or Else
Copenhagen, Climate Change, Environment are not just about CO2 emissions. Our ecosystem is much more complicated, which is part of the problem. Research scientists have narrowed the areas of planetary survival down to 10, which was presented in Nature. A fascinating read, wicked intense, but a great tool for getting the "big picture".

The planet has a fever, as seen on this chart, and tipping points are near.

Hemp And Germs And Nanos, Oh My...
Hemp is NOT a 4-letter word, really. Did you know that the U.S. uses more hemp products than any other country in the world and we can't even legally grow it? ? Learn some of the many different and unusual uses for hemp, including cement and insulation. Hemptrade
Germs are everywhere, that is true. But with the onslaught of H1N1, advice about hand washing is everywhere, too. Be sure to use the correct non-toxic, safe soap. Environmental Working Group
Nano silver particles are creeping into ordinary products even before they are regulated. But in underwear and socks? Come on. Here is the first of what we hope will be many studies on the reality of these new-fangled nanos. Chemical & Engineering News
When a product is labelled "anti-bacterial" or "odor-free", a big red flag should say "How?" We take the precautionary approach here at RGG, so until we are comfortable with long term health and environmental studies, we say "Hold the Nanos".

Plastic Update
Have you just swapped all your plastic for glass and/or stainless steel? Well, you're doing the right thing. Another study about gender bending BPA, this time linked to aggressive behavior in toddlers. This might be just the tip of the ice berg.
