Green Tip

The cut-flower industry has a huge Negative environmental impact (that's with a decisive capital "N") with at least 80% being imported. Local organic sources would be far better. Take it a step further and give your love a lovely live plant instead ADN.com and look for local nurseries, as well. If you really want to up the ante, try indoor plants that increase the air quality and remove toxins like formaldehyde.

Dear Debby,

We can not, in good conscience, let the month of February go by without taking advantage of its traditional love theme. We also can not, in good conscience, not recognize one of the worst natural disasters in recent history - the Haiti Earthquake. This is why we are encouraging you to "share the love" while considering an environmental perspective.
                                                                                                                                                                LOVE-LY IDEAS FROM RGG ONLINE
Ellie Pooh Heart BoxThe world is generously responding to this catastrophic event. The courageous stories are endless despite the enormity of despair and poverty. From an environmental standpoint, Haiti has one of the most degraded natural
environments in the Western hemisphere. Because poverty and its effects have been a priority, environmental initiatives have struggled and received little attention and funding. However, one organization stood out to us, and has been trying to combine providing health services with more sustainable, environmental conscious efforts. Partners in Health  was making eco-initiatives prior to the earthquake with solar panels and composting toilets. We trust that once it is time to rebuild, they will pick up where they left off, helping the people and the environment at the same time.

So, should you wish to "share the love" (any amount of money will do), we suggest one of the most reputable, long-standing Haitian organizations, Partners in Health.

Bills, Bills, Bills - We need your help!

There are three important bills coming before the New Hampshire House on Feb. 11th.  For those of you NOT from New Hampshire, consider this food for thought for your own "state of affairs".

NH House Bill #1172: Label Seeds with Genetically Modified Organisms
The bill asks to extend the right-to-know labeling so consumers can be sure the seeds they are purchasing are not GMO.
HB 1172GMO - FREE

NH House Bill #1388: Give Farmers the Right to Seek Damages If Their Crops Are Contaminated by GMO Drift
HB 1388

NH House Bill #1456: Establish a Study Committee to look at the use of pesticides, herbicides, and their alternatives in residential neighborhoods, school properties, playgrounds, and other places children congregate.

Plastic Update
BPA - This Is Unreal

The Good News: On Jan. 15th, the FDA finally reversed its position on BPA stating that they are now concerned about BPA's harmful effects on fetuses, infants, and children.
JSonline

The Bad News: Just two days later, the FDA announced that they would be unable to regulate BPA because of a little glitch in the wording that classifies BPA as "an indirect food additive". While evidence showing toxic effects from the chemical mounts, companies can continue to use it without any regulation.

"That New-Car Smell, Intoxicating... and Toxic?" That foggy film on the inside of your car's windshield is from toxic chemicals off-gassing and condensing on the glass. Find out which cars are the healthiest and which ones are the worst.
Toxic Car Interiors (Can you believe they actually make air fresheners to smell like new cars? Go figure...)
