Fans are much cheaper, easier to install and use 90% less energy than central air-conditioning. Best to install into an attic opening. At the very least, use a top floor window and face the fans outwards. Suck the cool in at night, block the sun during the day. |

Recycled Paper is Not Created Equal
Since paper can be a big investment at the beginning of the school year, we thought we would review the term "recycled paper". What's all the fuss about? Recycled paper is "recycled", right? Not exactly.
There are 2 types of "recycled paper" - pre-consumer and post-consumer. Pre-consumer waste material comes from the scrap gathered during the manufacturing process before it goes into the market place to be used by consumers. Post-consumer waste (PCW) is, you guessed it, after the magazine has been read or the junk mail tossed. Even though it is great to think that our junk mail can have a second life, the bottom line is that no trees were cut down for either of these types of paper.
However, "no trees cut down" ONLY applies if the paper is 100% recycled. The problem is that a product can use the "recycled" label even if it is only 10% recycled content. So, buyer beware. In today's world of paper, 10% recycled content is not very impressive. We urge you to go for the 100% recycled content whenever possible. Even today, 35% of all the trees cut down world wide are for paper production. Imagine all the trees that would be saved if we used 100% recycled content.
[More paper Facts Now] Go for the highest recycled content first, then the highest PCW content second. RGG looks far and wide and is proud to bring you the highest content PCW products.
Paper made from wood only began 150 years ago. Prior to that paper was made from other fibers, including hemp and rags. Now you know why the local newspaper is nick-named "the daily rag". |
